So the reason the Sultan doesn’t seem to be bothered by the mess is he’s already got “contractors” on it. Introducing: Imps.

Which are…basically the guys who didn’t make the team when Maleficent was having cronie tryouts. 

They are also vaguely Egyptian-themed because why not? Does Egyptian mythology have anything about a cartoony peanut gallery of the gods? Trickster creatures? (This would bother me less if it looked like more effort or research had gone into this. As yet they are just an enormous mishmash of crap so far.)

Genie says they’re bad news and doesn’t trust them. He assumes they’re why the city is in shambles. Interesting in itself because I think this is the first, possibly ONLY time, Genie has openly displayed a prejudice against anything. 

This will be interesting to explore because it will either address the issue of prejudice in an interesting way or completely fuck it up. Let’s see which way it goes. 

Yeah, I’m trying to remember another episode where Genie does this in front of a civilian.

No seriously, I know I reference it in one of the earlier episodes, I think? It’s interesting they don’t keep it (but in a few minutes I think we get a good reason why he stopped) because it could have been used for more interesting dynamics in later episodes. 

Are there places where knowing there’s a Genie about might put everyone in danger? 

Oh God, I forgot about Getzhistan

Okay so the gist, they are visiting Getzhistan (which is how I’m going to spell it until shown otherwise). I’m sure that there’s a pun in this name that I’m not seeing that would offend me if I could see it, but if I remember correctly the sultan is gonna do that for me. 

We don’t know why they’re going yet, but Iago is excited. This is basically the Las Vegas of the Seven Deserts. Parties, gambling, glitzy locales. That sort of thing. Iago is excited. “Club Nest Egg” will be his goal destination, and he has a “system” for gambling.

Which involves getting Genie to help him cheat, of course. Genie states he doesn’t know why Iago needs loaded dice and trick cards and x-ray specs, but I honestly don’t know if he’s that clueless or if he’s just announcing his ignorance as a passive-aggressive way to tell Aladdin what their avian friend is up to. 

Aladdin and Abu pretend to be offended.

Production Code Episode 8 – Never Say Nefir

One I decided to tackle because I tend to stay away from silly episodes – and this is one of them. It’s also one I’ve referenced before. Aladdin mentions (and heavily embellishes on) the events of this episode in My Fair Aladdin, which, yes, is well after this episode in terms of production order. This to me says that, in some cases, even if an episode was written first, it probably doesn’t get finished first. In terms of airing order they’re much closer at hand. 

This is from earlier in the series where Jasmine didn’t feature as much and Genie was still flip-flopping between being willing to show himself to people and pretending to be human for the sake of appearances. This is also the first episode to feature the Imps, or the Aladdinverse’s definition of them. More on this as we go! 

Another update: Computer fixed, but needs a cooler. New job is awesome.

Just to keep you guys in the loop on all of this: My computer is working again (and the old one I was using died, too; it remains dead because the motherboard is fried), However, I think I am going to drop some money on getting a laptop cooler for it because I’m paranoid about overheating it now. 

The new job is fantastic, and I think it’s going to stick, but it’s also demanding MANY hours from me. 

I really loved all the responses to that first set of questions I posted! I’m looking forward to posting more.

Quick Update: New Job, Computer Problems, and What to do Between Episodes

Hello, everybody! Lots of updates, including current issues, a new job, and a proposal for what to do on this blog between episodes, because I don’t just enjoy writing liveblogs – I like interacting with other fans of the show, and I want to hear from you! 

First: I started a new job three weeks ago, and while I’m still shaky and wary and trying not to make assumptions until I’ve been at it a while? I’m excited about it. I’m doing 30-40 hours every week at $14 an hour and it’s doing something I love (editing!), so I hope to hold onto it. This leaves me very little time for maybe the odd glance every now and again. Once I’m in a routine it’ll be easier to update, though.

Here’s what’s a bigger problem: The fan on my computer died, and I am waiting for a new fan to come in the mail. Then I am taking it to professionals to have it installed (and have the insides cleaned out – the screws are on so tight I can’t actually open up the laptop, so I’ve never been able to properly dust it). What this means is I am on my old Vista machine, which doesn’t have Photoshop or any of the things I use to make those liveblogs happen. Also it doesn’t like new Firefox. So official liveblogs are on hiatus for the next week or two. At least.

Because I do new episodes less frequently than I would like, but I still want to interact with all of you, I want to start doing other activities here on the blog. This will include discussion questions, where I will invite reblogs and back-and-forth chatting about a given show (currently Aladdin) or movie whenever we finish the series, and ask prompts. I would love your suggestions if you have any other ideas. Would this be something you woulod enjoy? Let me know!

This will be coming soon. I actually recently started a probationary period for a new job, and I am gradually working my way up to 40 hours a week at it (which is a big big BIG BIG first for me). Once things start to seem more secure I’ll be getting back to my more casual obsessions >.>
