Going to do another episode soon?

I injured my back recently. A lot of my posts and reblogs have been done via mobile lately on my personal blog, because I have trouble sitting at my desk for more than maybe an hour at a time. It didn’t strike me as a good idea to jump into another episode during this time, but I’ll look into one once I’m feeling better.

Question: Assuming the “brothers theory,” How would Moze react to Cassim? My headcanon: Moze is initially very hostile because not only did Cassim ‘abandon’ him and his mother, which lead to him being stuck with Destane, but he also fathered the guy who was until recently Moze’s greatest enemy. Needless to say the first time they meet in person Moze punches him in the face with his good hand. And it takes a loooong time for Moze to thaw out regarding dear old Dad. I’d love to hear your take!

The way that I always imagined it is that Mozenrath was taken before Cassim left his wife. In fact he left to find his fortune because he still had a wife and one baby and blamed himself for the “death” of his firstborn son. So he wanted to make certain he could support them so they’d never have to fear that happening to their family again and…he failed, clearly.

Mozenrath would recognize him as resembling Aladdin before anything else, so strike 1. I imagined that he’d only hear the truth because Cassim recognized him and his name, because he’s the one that named him. And whatever he’d try to tell him, Moze would not want to hear. He either doesn’t remember or he doesn’t want to hear an alternate version of the story. He’s obviously lying. He’s obviously trying to trick him.

This man can’t be who he claims to be.

I love The Poles Reversed too! AU!Moze is a great fusion of his base personality and his new circumstances. I am so curious as to how Moze and Genie would interact and what Sorcerer!Al would be like. <3

Sorcerer!Al is something I haven’t really given a lot of thought to since I started developing my deeper headcanon for Mozenrath and Destane (because the outline is only for the first movie, basically) but I envision now that Destane took Al (based on my brothers headcanon) because he mistook the two. Both being wee and such they might have resembled each other a little more closely.

Because of the way Aladdin’s magical potential manifests in the series I always imagined that having it tapped and stringently exercised would have created a slightly different result. Rather than manifesting in very good luck, it would be something else. Whereas Mozenrath as a sorcerer, despite his lack of maturity, has a pretty unique style of magic use that is very controlled, I see Aladdin’s being more entropic and wild and therefore much harder to contain. If he were to come across the gauntlet that might create a little more focus but as it is I almost imagine him going totally feral when his magic gets the better of him. He might even have a beast form.

whittertwitter replied to your post “How do you think the plot of the original movie (and, by extension, the series and KoT) would have been affected if Destane had never taken Mozenrath away, but Cassim still left and Mozenrath and Aladdin’s mother still died?”

You wrote that fic? I love that fic! I thought it’d been abandoned ages ago!

Yep, I totally wrote that fic. And I have a full outline. I’m actually just really struggling at introducing Carpet (because I don’t want to do the original scene word for word), so I haven’t been able to move forward.

How do you think the plot of the original movie (and, by extension, the series and KoT) would have been affected if Destane had never taken Mozenrath away, but Cassim still left and Mozenrath and Aladdin’s mother still died?

It likely would have more closely resembled how they originally wrote the movie, with Aladdin’s mother still alive and with him backed by an entourage of BFFs. Only cut out one of the friends (who was named Cassim) and replace him with his snarky older brother.

…On a slightly related note I’m going to admit that about once a year I still update an AU fanfiction that I’ve been writing for a long time, that is basically what the story would have been if Moze and Aladdin’s places were switched.

So Aladdin hasn’t come into the story but you’ve got a very different narrative. Mozenrath is a bitter before his time, never-trusts-his-luck sort of person who works as an Apothecary because some guy he tried to pickpocket as a kid basically felt sorry for him and apprenticed him, then he inherited the business.

Jafar buys illegal substances from him and can sense that he has some magical potential and wants to apprentice him. Mozenrath is not interested because Jafar is a creep. He is hassled by guards constantly, but Jafar keeps their raids pretty light because if Moze is ever caught he will TOTALLY tell them that the Grand Vizier buys illicit goods from him.

He saved Jasmine but it was in a much more snarky way. He didn’t fool Farouk; he argued him down and then dragged Jasmine off to yell at her for being ignorant.

Lots of changes. I have yet to introduce the Genie (nearly there) but their dynamic is totally different, with Mozenrath being a giant sourpuss and Genie trying to get him to lighten up (and more importantly, appreciate his good fortune.) There will be no confusion as to who he is when he returns to Agrabah as a “prince” – not for Jafar at any rate, but he can’t say anything without Moze getting him into trouble. So that whole “Where did you say you were from?” conversation while the Sultan is tooling around on Carpet becomes an exchange more like “You’re not going to get away with this. You may think you’re clever, but you had help. You’ll slip eventually.” and Mozenrath just kind of chuckling, smoothing the front of Jafar’s robes in a friendly fashion, then grabbing him by the collar and uttering “Blow me” before walking away to talk to the Sultan again.

…Someday I will finish it.

I RP Moze as well. :) I made the half-bro theory work for me by having it where Cassim never knew Moze’s mother was pregnant. They were together for a short while, but she was mildly psychic (she’d get flashes of the future), and soon after Moze was conceived she foresaw her death, among other things, and in turmoil, convinced Cassim to leave. Moze’s mom had an older sister, so she thought the little guy would have someone to take care of him…but the vision didn’t show she’d die young too.

Mozenrath is denied everything related to happy childhood stuff.

If I may refer back to Return of Jafar, Aladdin being framed for the Sultan’s murder always disturbed me when I was little, mainly because I thought it really was Jasmine accusing him. It was still awful to watch even after I figured out after several viewings that it was Jafar along. But I wonder why he revealed himself to Aladdin at the last minute? Wouldn’t it be more evil to Aladdin (and Jasmine) to let him die thinking she turned on him?

I think Jafar wanted him to die knowing that everyone he loved was doomed.

If Jasmine really had believed he killed her father, either she’d eventually learn the truth and have him back when he was rescued, or she’d become queen and have to move on with her life. All worse outcomes than happily ever after, sure, but I’m willing to bet Jafar didn’t think it’d be worse than Aladdin going to his grave knowing Jafar was back and poised to make everyone’s lives a living Hell.

Conclusion: ANTI MAGIC MITTENS

Sometimes Genie’s schtick is kind of adorable.

Like that confusion right there. That’s legit. Because how the Hell do you respond to having mittens put on your hands like you’re a newborn baby that scratches itself too much?

But on a more serious note, Jasmine and Aladdin admit they’d never know what would have happened if Genie, Carpet, and Iago hadn’t gotten involved.

It’s a good point. Because by the looks of things? They weren’t going to get away from Mozenrath without getting caught, not if he hadn’t been distracted by magical intruders. He was right on top of them pretty much the whole time, and the risks were only going to become more intense the longer they stayed around him while trying to get at the weapon.

And if he HAD caught them they wouldn’t have had Genie to disarm his shouldn’t-have-worked-anyway deathtrap. Abu would have only been able to free maybe one of them if he stuck to the same murder-attempt. The rest would be toast.

That’s if it came to that. They would have been, at the very least, facing down an army of Mamluks, and Mozenrath’s magic, AND the weapon if he chose to just unleash it and kill them with Scirocco right there.

So yeah. The sidekicks messed up everything but it would have been a suicide mission without them.
