Abis Mal is apparently thinking about wishing for things he’s already wished for.

Like the sunken treasure from Return of Jafar. Or, for a change of pace, “The floating treasure of Cali-forn-aye-ay."

…Sometimes I want to smack these writers with a rolled up newspaper.

Haroud suggests he wish for a new hat, because he’s tired of listening to him flip fop, and this is apparently a great idea. Time to rub the lamp!

Genie’s having displacement issues.

Without a lamp to live in, Genie’s adopted a shoe to be his new home.

He specifies that while he’s not bound to the lamp anymore, he considers it his home. Mal can’t use it to control him or get wishes from him, but Genie’s still at something of a disadvantage. And this could be really interesting to explore in detail. However, like the new limitations on Genie’s powers and how that affects him as a person, this is something the show just isn’t going to focus on that much, because they hesitate to ever make this character too serious. Genie inhabited a lamp for over 10,000 years. It’s how he’s used to living. Now, if we explored this a little more, maybe had – oh, I don’t know – Aladdin spend a little time helping him settle in a new object or even get him used to inhabiting places like humans do? This would have been an interesting opportunity for development. They could even bond further. GUESS WHO KNOWS WHAT IT’S LIKE TO LOSE A HOME, GENIE?

Buuut we only have 21 minutes, so let’s get this ball rolling.

Genie realizes he can track down Abis Mal as soon as he rubs the lamp, because he can hear it no matter where he is. The trouble is – he’s apparently not rubbing it.

Cut to the next morning!

So they were obviously chasing Abis Mal from Agrabah proper, across the desert, to wherever the sea is from there. I assume this place is a smaller village/port tied to the main city, but it’s one we don’t get to see that often – or possibly ever again; I’m honestly not sure. I wish we had a map or something so we could properly see how the kingdom spreads out.

Okay, let’s do this. Gonna try to get another chunk of Some Enchanted Genie done.

My computer’s just been funky about overheating lately, so we’ll see how it goes. A couple things to bear in mind: I may not post caps with captions and just put the quotes underneath, because this negates my having to open Photoshop and use up more CPU space. You can see what little I’ve covered so far here

So… I haven’t had time to comb through your blog yet, but do you actually own all of episodes of the Aladdin TV series? I’ve been trying to obtain legal copies of the TV series to no avail.

There are no legal copies available, as Disney has never released the series on DVD, and never released the full TV series on video, just select episodes. I have to try to find them online when people upload them to streaming sites. (I would be so happy if they did and would gladly put money toward such a release.)

A Hook liveblog would be awesome! I saw that movie in 4th grade after we did our own version of Peter Pan. Maybe you could also reblog the original Aladdin — or King of Thieves (even though it’s a little out of order, but RW had some great stuff in KoT)?

I wrote a very in-depth analysis of Hook some years ago, but I would really, super love to just go frame by frame and scene by scene and just do all the analysis and head canons and book comparisons and agh.

As for the original Aladdin? Someday, definitely. King of Thieves I’m saving for when I’ve finished up most of the series, though!
